Upon examination, we discovered that the previous company had wired the wrong size capacitor to the motor, resulting in excessive voltage. This caused the motor to overheat significantly, reaching 186° despite the ambient temperature being 78°. The overheating damaged the bearings, leading to the noise. Repaired this heat pump by replacing the screeching, overheating, over amping fan motor, giving it a good cleaning, clearing out condensate drain and checking the overall operation. Even though it’s been operating for 7 years, it’s a little out of the refrigerant charge range and the airflow is too low. This is why it’s important to have maintenance, it may be working, but it might not be optimal.
